Ballistic Resistance of Spall-Liners against the Effects of the Mortar Mine nr 23C2 (Weerstand van spall-liners tegen de uitwerking van de mortiermijn nr. 23C2).

Abstract

The protective capabilities of several configurations of spall-liner- vehicle armour, against the mortar mine type nr. 23C2, were determined. The vehicle armour consisted of 5 mm steel nr. 37, 24 mm air and 10 mm aluminum 6068. DYNEEMA composite spall-liners of respectively 6, 12 and 24 mm were tested. The DYNEEMA was applied as inliner (between the steel and aluminum) as well as outliner (attached onto the aluminum) Detonation distance of the mine was 30 cm. The best results were seen with 12 mm DYNEEMA spall-liner, applied as an outliner. Complete protection against the detonation of the mortar mine was obtained.
