The Role of Integrins in Breast Cancer Metastasis
Abstract
Our objective is to investigate the role of integrins in metastasis in human breast cancer. Integrins play an important role in cell adhesions and interactions with extracellular matrix proteins and the maintenance of normal differentiation. The scope of the study is to use variants of human breast cancer cell lines that differ in integrin expression to examine the relationship between integrin expression and metastasis to different organs. Variants of the human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-435 with elevated expression expression of alpha v and alpha 6 integrins are highly metastatic to the lungs of nude mice. differences in expression of alternate
