The Role of Oxidative Stress in Apoptosis of Breast Cancer Cells
Abstract
In response to specific stimuli, normal cells undergo a process of cell suicide called apoptosis. This project is testing the hypothesis that oxidative stress plays a critical role in the mechanism of apoptosis induced by treatment of human breast cancer cells with tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF). TNF treatment of MCF-7 cells was found to increase the expression and activity of manganese superoxide dismutase.
