Vertical Impact Tests of the X-31 Helmet-Mounted Visual and Audio Display (HMVAD) System

Abstract

An experimental effort was conducted to measure the biodynamic response of an ADAM subjected to a simulated SJU-5 ejection pulse while wearing the X-31 HMVAD system. The test results will be used to evaluate the injury potential of this particular helmet system if worn by an aircrew member during an ejection. The tests were conducted for the Armstrong Laboratory and Wright Laboratory Joint Cockpit Office by the Escape and Impact Protection Branch of the Armstrong Laboratory.
