A Preliminary Report on the Infrared Signatures of Ships

Abstract

Measurements of the infrared radiation in the 7.8 to 20 micron region from a number of military and commercial ships was made on three hazy days. Ranges varied from 2500 to 15,000 yards. No radiation could be detected at wavelengths of 1.73-3.33 microns, 3.3-4.2 microns or 2.3-5 microns.
