Abstract

The end of the Cold War and the resulting reductions in defense spending have presented many challenges for U.S. industry. The Department of Commerce, through the Bureau of Export Administration, has developed a comprehensive national defense diversification program to provide assistance to U.S. industry in this period of transition Providing current market information on commercial and defense business opportunities abroad is an important component of our defense diversification program. This information should assist U.S. firms in their market and product diversification efforts. Therefore, I am pleased to announce the publication of the revised Pacific Rim Diversification and Defense Market Assessment Guide. This guide, an updated version of our first edition within our regional series, provides a wide variety of current information concerning trade opportunities, government procurement processes, country-specific business practices and important points of contact in the selected Pacific Rim countries.
