Lasers in Synthesis, Characterization and Processing of Diamond, International Center, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 6-9 October 1997

Abstract

The topic of the conference belongs to scientific and technology sphere where the progress goes very fast. Outstanding physical and chemical properties of diamond make it the material of choice for numerous advanced applications in optics (Uv and high energy particle detectors, IR and millimeter waves windows, X-ray lithographic masks), mechanics (cutting tools for precision machining), acoustics (sound diaphragms, surface acoustic waves devices), electronics (heat spreaders, high-temperature sensors) and other industries. The conferences focuses on laser-based technologies, the topic which is often included in programs of different meetings on diamond materials, however it was never presented as the main topic at any meeting before. Participants will get more information about various diamond finishing procedures achievable with lasers, including surface smoothing, cutting, drilling, metallization, patterning. Researchers who are working on development of diamond synthesis techniques will discuss new laser-based methods of diamond deposition, which promise remarkably high growth rates. For those who are interested in reliable assessment of diamond quality the program will offer a variety of analytical methods (Rainan spectroscopy, photoluminescence, laser flash, pulse photoconductivity, nonlinear absorption, etc.).
