YEAR 2000 COMPUTING CRISIS: Strong Leadership Today Needed to Prevent Future Disruption of Government Services.

Abstract

This testimony discusses the "Year 2000" computer compliance problem which could cause potential failure of all government programs which provide benefits. GAO has developed a guide that constitutes a framework for agencies to assess their readiness for year 2000 compliance. This guide is divided into five phases; awareness assessment, renovation, validation, and implementation.
