Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to explore the importance that Central and South America will play in the 21st century. Understanding the history of the region as well as current economic, democratic, military, political and social trends should improve the ability to shape and respond to the challenges of the future. Given United States policy, how should it prepare for the 21st century? Given the many cultural differences in the region it is imperative to identify and exploit similarities and to work to minimize possible negative effects of the differences.
