Special Measurement, Final Report
Abstract
Special measurement clothing represents a small but persistent part of the clothing demand by the U.S. military services. Because of styling and fit considerations, the problem is most often encountered with tailored or dress clothing items. The problems are most difficult at Recruit Induction Centers where there is a short period of time between when the need for special measurement clothing is realized and the recruit's scheduled graduation date. Prior to closing the DPSC factory, it manufactured the military clothing for persons who required special measurement garments. After the DPSC factory closed, the problem was turned over to Government contractors. After they (govt. contractors) experienced a number of problems, the DLA-sponsored Clemson Apparel Research (CAR) Demo was asked to manufacture dress shirts for the Army and Air Force. During the process we were able to develop more effective techniques for handling special measurement orders through manufacturing. This report consists of the experiences of the DEMO and the findings which have been made in over three years as a part of the special measurement process.
