Plexus (Phillips Laboratory Expert System-Assisted User Software)

Abstract

This report summarizes the results of the Phillips Lab PLEXUS project to design, build, and distribute a user friendly, expert system assisted, GUI enhanced software suite of sophisticated atmospheric effects and backgrounds models (FASCODE, MODTRAN, LOWTRAN, SHARC, Celestial Backgrounds Model) developed by PL/GPO to determine the effects of the atmosphere on electrooptical sensor performance. Although a complex task with high technical risk, the project was extremely successful as measured by the fact that PLEXUS has been distributed to over 200 users and has become widely accepted as one of the key E-O engineering support tools within the DoD and NATO. Government Agencies and their contractors may obtain copies of the PLEXUS software by request to Dr. Laila Jeong, PL/GPOC, email: jeongplh.af.mil.
