Characterization Testing - A Predictive Maintenance Advantage

Abstract

Knowing that a traditional time directed preventive maintenance program is limited in its flexibility and effectiveness, the CHAR 921 characterization system software was developed as an open architecture design. This enables linking to additional database modules and integrating predictive maintenance data collection and data analysis into a single system. By taking advantage of the synergistic benefits realized when the results of several techniques are brought together, power plant management has a powerful tool which directs the focus of maintenance activities to real time equipment condition needs and not simply performing maintenance as a function of time.
