JPRS Report, Latin America, Reference Aid, Glossary of Spanish and Portuguese Narcotics Terms.

Abstract

This JPRS report is a reference aid of Spanish and Portuguese narcotics terms. This reference aid is an update of the Glossary of Spanish Narcotics Terms dated 11 August 1986, hereby superseded, and is a compilation of commonly used Spanish-and Portuguese-language narcotics terms. The sources used in compiling this aid were the Spanish-language and Portuguese-language press of Central and South America; the Los Angeles Superior Court's Drug Terminology General Glossary (English-Spanish/Spanish-English), published in March 1980; the English-language press of the United States; and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Spanish entries followed by a parenthetical abbreviation indicate, but are not limited to, the area of common use in Latin America. All Portuguese entries are from Brazil. Following the glossary is a compilation of English terms for cocaine, heroin, LSD, and marijuana.
