Thermal Stability of Gun Propellants from Munition Articles That Returned from Cambodia.

Abstract

A number of gun propellants drawn from munition articles that returned from Cambodia, were investigated on their extent of ageing and compared with the identical propellants stored all the time in the TNO Prins Maurits Laboratory (TNO-PML) propellant magasins. The properties that were investigated were the stabiliser content, the moisture content, the calorific value and the heat production at 85 0C, being standard gun propellant surveillance tests. The differences in ageing between both collections of gun propellants are extremely small, indicating that the storage conditions of the propellants in Cambodia did not differ much from the conditions in the TNO-PML storage magasins.
