User Manual PIRATE Model, Release Beta 1.0. (Handleiding PIRATE model, versie Beta 1.0)

Abstract

This report contains the user's manual of the Beta release of the PIRATE model. This is a computer program to calculate the radar performance of the radars aboard the ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy under the specified circumstances. PIRATE is developed at the TNO Physics and Electronics Laboratory and is primarily meant as a decision support tool to assist the air defense officers during air defense operations. The computer program has an easy to use user interface and runs on a standard personal computer. The user can choose the radar of a selected ship class and specify the radar settings. After entering of meteorological data and specification of a target, the model can calculate the detection performance of the radar. This can be presented in a horizontal coverage, vertical coverage or blind zone diagram. All features of the PIRATE program and the complete operations manual are described in this document.
