Navy Force Employment Focus--Back to the Future.

Abstract

The clarification of roles (vice core competencies) for the Navy based on an analysis of Myriad doctrinal publications leads to identification of four broad enduring concepts: sea control, power projection, strategic deterrence and strategic lift. Of these, the critical action roles of sea control and power projection are best carried out using current, time-tested force employment methods: CVBGS AND AROS. However, if these are to remain viable methods, a serious effort must be made at examining and improving current operationa; functions, particularly force protection.
