User's Guide to STAT The SHADWELL Test Analysis Tool (Version 1.0).

Abstract

Large-scale fire tests, such as those conducted aboard the ex-USS SHADWELL, typically involve several hundred sensors producing 5-15 MB of data per test. SHADWELL data are collected on a Unix-based MassComp computer, converted to a columnar ASCII format and exported for off-line processing. Historically, these data have been imported into a spreadsheet and analyzed either manually or with the aid of ad hoc macros which had to be modified for each test situation. The SHADWELL Test Analysis Tool (STAT) was written to provide a generic tool which may be used for all SHADWELL tests and which may also be applied to any data set which is formatted as columns of ASCII text. STAT is implemented as an add-in of version 5.0 or later of Microsoft Excel (TM). Menu commands are provided to configure the tool for specific sensor types and locations, import and export data, select data from specified sensors and perform some common filtering, smoothing and statistical functions.
