Environmental Investigation Report for Fort Douglas. Volume 1 - text

Abstract

Fort Douglas was recommended for closure and realignment by the Defense Secretary's Commission on Base Realignment and Closure in December 1988. As stipulated by Section 120(h) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the closure and transfer of the property must be preceded by an evaluation of hazardous substances which are known or suspected to be present at the site. Therefore, under the management of the U. S. Army Environmental Center (USAEC), formerly the U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency (USATHAMA), an Environmental Investigation (El) and Alternatives Analysis (AA) have been conducted for the excessed area of Fort Douglas, approximately 51 acres.
