Medical Examination and Standards: Medical Requirements Waivers and Restrictions for Aircrew

Abstract

This document is a revision of the aeromedical selection and health examination used by the Royal Netherlands Airforce, the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Royal Belgian Airforce. It has been accomplished by the cooperation of the Netherlands Aerospace Medical Centre, the Belgian Aerospace Medical Centre, flight surgeons and military medical specialists. The content is based on the recently developed European flight crew licensing agreement for civil aviation (JAR-FCL3), USAF Medical Waivers for Aircrew, AGARD publications and other medical literature. This document describes medical conditions, requirements, rationales, examinations, waivers and restrictions for (candidate) pilots and other aircrew. The following subjects are covered: general requirements, ophthalmology, ear nose and throat, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system, musculoskeletal disorders, neurology, endocinology, hematology, arthritis and connective tissue disorders, oncology, dermatology, infections diseases. tropical diseases, dentistry, psychology.
