Orbit Transfer Vehicle Engine Study Volume 1

Abstract

The Orbit Transfer Vehicle (OTV) is planned as a high-performance propulsive stage which can he used. in conjunction with the Space Shuttle, to deliver/support large payloads/platforms to geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) and other orbits beyond low earth orbit (LEO). Its role is similar to that of the "full capability" Space Tug defined in 1974 with the primary difference that the OTV will eventually be man-rated.
