A Tutorial on U.S. Defense: From History to Current Issues

Abstract

This paper is a brief outline of the situation with regard to U.S. defense and its role in world today; today defined as an evolving new era following the end of the Cold War. The paper begins with a brief history of U.S. defense, from pre-World War 2 to the present. It examines the world of security the United States faces and its role in international relations today. Finally, it examines the defense budget and programs and the various roles the Executive Branch, Congress and the four military Services play in formulating them.
