Local and Migratory Movements of Hawaiian Humpback Whales Tracked by Satellite Telemetry,

Abstract

Inter-island and offshore migrations of six humpback whales were studied; the whales were tagged during March and April 1995 with satellite-monitored radio tags off Kaua'i, Hawaii. The migration route of the whales was studied. Radiotelemetry requires no additional field effort after tagging to obtain the frequent resightings that provide detailed migratory and local movement data.
