Development of a Technology for In Situ Remediation of Groundwater
Abstract
This report responds to the need of the Air Force to develop new technologies for environmental compliance and site remediation. Effective and efficient treatment of contaminated groundwater is of great importance for Air Force operations, where significant volumes of dilute aqueous waste can be generated and leak into the soil and thence the aquifer. Conventional disposal methods, primarily pump-and-treat, often are impractical or too costly, so that use of aqueous chemical oxidation to treat the contaminants in situ is an attractive alternative for reducing concentrations to acceptable limits.
