Breast Cancer and Risk Factors Among African-American Women Aged 20-54: A Case-Control Study According to Estrogen Receptor.

Abstract

This project has been extended because of the extra work proposed in our last report and because of the additional procedures for the enrollment of study women. This report covers the period from September 1, 1997 to August 31, 1998. During this period, the research team has made tremendous efforts for reaching the project goal. We have identified and interviewed with most cases and controls according to the sample size expected in the study design. We are collecting breast cancer tissue specimens from hospitals in the three counties where cases were pathologically diagnosed. These tissue specimens are being processed and stained for ER measurements. We have established and maintained the databases for administrative data, questionnaire data and tissue collection/measurement data. A hypothesis article based on the recent progress in molecular biology will be published soon. More efforts are being made to finish the project during the extended period.
