Doctrine for Joint Psychological Operations

Abstract

This doctrine addresses the use of military psychological operations (PSYOP) assets in planning and conducting PSYOP in support of joint operations across the range of military operations. The following information is also included. (1) The context for employment of PSYOP is provided. (2) The sources of policy and authority for the use of military PSYOP assets are identified. (3) PSYOP responsibilities of principal DOD and other US Government (USG) agencies are outlined. (4) Basic PSYOP principles and objectives are identified. (5) Guidance for the development or refinement of DOD PSYOP plans and annexes is provided. (6) Joint PSYOP capabilities are outlined. (7) Planning considerations for the employment of PSYOP assets to support strategic, operational, tactical, and consolidation military PSYOP objectives and the requisite coordination among other DOD elements and USG agencies necessary to execute their respective PSYOP responsibilities are delineated. (8) PSYOP logistic, intelligence, and command, control, communications, and computer systems support requirements are identified.
