Cultural Resources Survey of Bayou Dularge Disposal Areas, Terrebonne Prish, Louisiana.

Abstract

This report presents the results of cultural resources survey, inventory, and assessment of two proposed disposal areas located along the west bank of Bayou DuLarge in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Fieldwork was performed by R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., in June 1997. Proposed Disposal Site 1 measured 30.48 m (100 ft) by 850 m (2788.71 ft), and encompassed an area of 6.4 ac (2.59 ha). Proposed Disposal Site 2 measured 30.48 m (100 fi) by 900 m (2952.76 ft), encompassing an area of 6.78 ac (2.74 ha). Both of the proposed disposal sites are located on the west bank of Bayou DuLarge, and these sites are located 13.6 km (8.5 mi) and 15.2 km (9.5 mi) south of Theriot, Louisiana respectively. The entire area of both proposed disposal sites was surveyed systematically using both shovel and auger testing. In addition, the bankline along Bayou DuLarge was surveyed. No cultural resources (archeological loci or historic standing structures) were identified as a result of this survey, and therefore, no additional testing of the proposed disposal site areas is recommended.
