Geographical Information Extraction With Remote Sensing. Part II - Technical Supplement.
Abstract
The goal of this study is to evaluate the potential of remote sensing for geographical information extraction. We have therefore collected remote sensing data from sensors in different wavelength regions (optical, thermal infrared and microwave) and for two test sites showing a variety of geographical features. The extracted geographical information has been compared with an existing ground database (TERAS) using a selected DIGEST feature list. With resolutions of about 5 meter most features can be detected and with resolution less than 1 meter most features can be recognised. For extended features like crop land or forest spectral or polarimetric information is more important than the resolution.
