On the Theory of Ion Noise in Microwave Tubes

Abstract

This work examines from a theoretical perspective recent experimental work regarding ion noise in the CPI continuous wave illuminator (CWI) and also earlier related ion measurements on a CW klystron. The measurements are to a large extent complementary, the former doing only microwave measurements, the latter doing only ion current measurements. The measurements are compared to theory which seems applicable. Many result do agree at least qualitatively with theory.
