High Performance Pre- and Post-Processing Equipment for Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and Large-Eddy-Simulations of Transitional and Turbulent Flows

Abstract

With the funding from DURIP grant F46920-97-1-0812 we purchased a Silicon Graphics Origin 2000 with 12 processors, 2GB memory, and 18GB disk space, as well as flow visualization software and several peripherals, accessories and PC's for pre- and post-processing support. The equipment has been utilized effectively to perform pre- and post-processing tasks for our DoD funded research projects. The multi-processor capability has allowed us to develop and test our Navier-Stokes codes locally and improve their performance before performing production runs at the DoD High-Performance Computing Centers. The high performance multi-processing capability has enabled effective post-processing of the massive time-dependent data sets that are delivered by the simulations on the DoD supercomputers.
