ENT Surgical Simulator.

Abstract

The Madigan Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Simulator is a state-of-the-art procedural simulator designed to train residents and staff surgeons in the skills necessary for endoscopic sinus surgery. An earlier Midterm Report documented progress in the development and evaluation of the simulator during the first two years of the cooperative agreement, DAMD17-95-2-5023. This report covers progress made during the last year of this three-year cooperative agreement. Researchers on a multi-institutional development team have upgraded the simulator in response to suggestions from a separate multi-institutional evaluation team. The focus of the evaluation effort evolved to characterize the degree and type of transfer of training from the simulator to actual operating room performance.
