Bottom Backscattering Measured Off the Carolina Coast during the Littoral Warfare Advanced Development 98-4 Experiment,

Abstract

Measurements of ocean bottom backscattering were performed in a shallow water environment off the South Carolina coast as part of the Littoral Warfare Advanced Development 98-4 Experiment. Scattering strengths were obtained at 2., 2.5, 3., and 3.5 kHz as a function of grazing angle. Scattering strengths show no clear frequency dependence. Bottom backscattering measurement results are consistent with measurements taken at nearby sites from previous LWAD (FTE 96-2 and SCV 97) experiments.
