Investigations of the Nonlinear Optical Response of Composite and Photonic Band Gap Materials

Abstract

This report is a doctoral thesis on the nonlinear optical properties of composite and photonic band gap optical materials. Emphasis is placed on the enhancement effect in both types of structures where the effective nonlinearity is greater than the nonlinearity of either of the constituent materials.
