Topographic Technology Enhancement

Abstract

A study was performed to determine Special Operation Forces (SOF) requirements for highly detailed feature and attribute data sets for urban operations. These needs were compared to the capability offered by the DMA VPF-based product, Urban Vector Smart Map (UVMap). From interviews with SOF officers, the specific features and attributes required were determined and prioritized. A value-adding process was considered for enhancing the baseline UVMap product for SOF use. Source material requirements and software available for value-adding were also considered. A Phase II approach was outlined to demonstrate value-adding to UVMap as a prototype process leading to an enhanced capability for Force.
