Sensors for Measuring the Volume Scattering Function of Oceanic Waters

Abstract

This work was an initial design of a sensor to measure in situ the volume scattering function (VSF) of oceanic waters. The sensor specifications were to measure the VSF at 10 angles from 0.1 to 3 degrees and at 17 angles from 10 to 170 degrees. Measurements are made on an undisturbed volume of water. Initial design work was completed under a subcontract to HOBI Labs, which is continuing with the construction of the instrument under separate funding.
