Using the NRCS Hydric Soil Indicators with Soils with Thick A Horizons

Abstract

The purpose of this technical note is to assist hydric soil determination in soils with thick A horizons using the Field indicators of hydric soils in the United States (Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) 1998); hereafter referred to as "NRCS Indicators." Official interpretation of the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual (Environmental Laboratory (1987), hereafter referred to as the "1987 Manual") allows appropriate NRCS indicators to be used under rules of the "Problem Areas" section.
