Testing of Accuracy of NC Machine Tools

Abstract

To summarize the state of the art of accuracy testing a concept, basic 4 explanations, definitions, methods, and a list of tests are presented here as a general proposal for a standard test that corresponds to the present state of the art of metrology of numerically controlled machine tools. The author will present essentially an approach and formulations for a system based on his previous publications resulting from his theoretical work and practical testing experience at UMIST in Manchester and at McMaster University, and which has developed in his close contact with R. McClure and J. Bryan in the impressive research and metrology development work at LLNL. The author also had discussions of the various aspects of the system in the "Me" STC of CIRP. To the best knowledge of the author there are no contradictions between this system and the metrological practice of LLNL or of WZL Aachen.
