Study of Vibrational Energy Exchange and Determination of V-V Exchange Rate Constants on High Levels of the CO Molecule

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking P. N. Lebedev Physical Institute as follows: The contractor will obtain new information concerning the kinetics of energy exchange between highly excited CO molecules. A new theoretical model of CO vibrational kinetics will be verified on the basis of laser energy output measurements from a frequency-selective, double-pulsed, Q-switched CO laser. These energy measurements will be used to infer rate constants, and these constants will be used to predict the operation of CO lasers that are based on using highly excited CO molecules.
