Protocols for Creating Atomic and Molecular Quantum Computing Elements

Abstract

Under this grant, a constructive procedure was developed for generating a prescribed unitary transform via the optically driven evolution of a multilevel atom. Assuming a clean separation of the coupled levels, the procedure employed the rotating wave approximation together with a decomposition of a unitary matrix into simpler matrix factors with specified structure. Applications to state preparation and observation were also provided.
