The Power Ratings of an Electric Motor for Electric Vehicles

Abstract

This report presents the methodology used to calculate the peak and continuous power ratings of a Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) used for electric propulsion of an Electric Vehicle (EV). A procedure is given to calculate the peak and continuous power ratings by taking into account the driving schedules, the principles of operation of SRMs and assuming loss values at only one operating point.
