New Concepts for an Impact Resistant Sonardome.

Abstract

The most promising short-term concept for a new impact resistant sonardome resulting from a brainstorm session, is the modification of the existing composite dome. Replacement of the carbon layers by E-glass woven roaming layers increases the impact capacity from 22 kj (penetration depth O,45m) tot 35 kJ (Penetration depth 0, 8m). Application of a rubber layer on top of the dome will increase the maintenance of acoustical properties! requirements in case of low impacts.
