Monmouth Beach, New Jersey: Beach-Fill "Hot Spot" Erosion Evaluation. Report 1. Physical Processes Analysis.

Abstract

The U.S. Army Engineer District, New York, is constructing Section I-Sea Bright to Ocean Township, New Jersey, of the Atlantic Coast of New Jersey - Sandy Hook to Barnegat Inlet Beach Erosion Control Project. Within the initial portion of this project, a zone of accelerated shoreline erosion has developed near the southern boundary of Monmouth Beach, New Jersey. This report identifies sediment transport processes contributing to the accelerated erosion at Monmouth Beach by evaluating four hypotheses presented to explain the high erosion rate. Conceptual engineering actions to mitigate the high erosion rates are recommended for further investigation.
