Epidemiologic Investigation of a Cluster of Cystosarcoma Phyllodes Tumors of the Female Breast

Abstract

An epidemiologic investigation of a cluster of cases of phyllodes tumors of the female breast was undertaken. A total of 114 cases with biopsy confirmation have been identified. Most were in northern New Jersey. The occurrence of multiple primary phyllodes tumors in a single patient was found to be significantly more frequent than in prior series. Investigations concerning phyllodes tumor occurrence in neighboring counties did not reveal any other regions of increased incidence. Developmental efforts for a phyllodes tumor tissue repository linked to epidemiologic data were begun.
