Voices From The Past-Command History Post WWII to November 1999. An Historical Account of the Naval Personnel Research & Development Center (NPRDC) of San Diego, California

Abstract

This report summarizes the history of the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center from its founding in July 1973 through its disestablishment in November 1999. Over its lifetime the Center conducted over 800 separate research and development projects supporting the Navy and Marine Corps. NPRDC's core R&D functions in manpower and personnel were assumed by the Navy Personnel Research, Studies and Technology (NPRST) division of the Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tennessee, which began operations in November 1999. The new research center carries with it a rich legacy of achievements from its predecessor organization. This report highlights a selection of these products and describes NPRDC's corporate history in terms of Commanding Officers, Technical Directors, organization, resources, R&D programs, and recognition for performance.
