The Influence of Surgeon's Characteristics on Treatment Recommendations for Older Women with Early Stage Breast Cancer

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate how surgeons' demographic characteristics, practice setting, educational background, knowledge, and beliefs about breast cancer therapy influence their propensity to recommend breast-conserving treatment (BCT) or modified radical mastectomy for older women with early-stage breast cancer. The study aimed to interview 60 surgeons from southeast Texas.
