Development of Computational Techniques for Studying Interpenetrating Plasma Flows and Microwave Impulse

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking High Energy Density Research Center (HEDRC) as follows: The contractor will simulate the merging plasma ensemble as three fluids one for the ion component of each plasma and one for a single common electron fluid. Issues which must be successfully addressed include conservation of momentum and energy, accommodating widely varying time scales for different processes, and avoidance of numerical artifacts such as numerical diffusion. They will evaluate and determine the most effective algorithms.
