Optical Memory Application Study

Abstract

The objective of this effort was to determine the potential user base of the three-dimensional (3-D) volumetric memory (VM) technology currently under development at AFRL, Rome Research Site. A secondary objective was to determine the system characteristics this storage technology must possess to ensure successful transition into current and emerging weapon systems. The technical approach followed included a survey of potential storage technology users. The results summarized in this report support the high potential viability of this technology while helping to establish functional, physical and economic requirements needed to guide its development over the next few years.
