Tmproving the Consult Management Process at David Grant Medical Center

Abstract

David Grant Medical Center perceives there is a problem with the management of consults within the medical facility. This project addresses the issue of how to best redesign the consult process to improve access and customer satisfaction. By defining an ideal consult system, problems and inefficiencies within the David Grant Medical Center process will be highlighted. Four major areas are noted for improvement: (1) institution of UM to profile providers, (2) changes in the structure and responsibilities of the consult management office, (3) upgrading the dictation and transcription services and (4) mandating electronic consults.
