Hazardous Material Management for the F-15 Aircraft Program

Abstract

The Joint Logistics Commanders requested an audit of hazardous material management for major Defense systems. The F-15 is one of a series of programs included in the audit. The overall audit objective was to evaluate the adequacy of planning and providing for the reduction and control of hazardous materials used in the design, manufacture, maintenance, and disposal for the F-15. Specifically, we evaluated whether the program manager managed the selection, use, and disposal of hazardous materials so that DoD incurs the lowest cost possible that is consistent with the system's cost, schedule, and performance goals while protecting human health and the environment over the system's life cycle. We also evaluated the management control program as it related to the audit objective.
