Evaluation of the Department of Defense Pollution Prevention Program

Abstract

Our objective for this evaluation was to determine whether the military departments are adequately implementing the pollution prevention requirements of Executive Order 12856, "Federal Compliance with Right-to-Know Laws and Pollution Prevention Requirements" and the DoD comprehensive pollution prevention strategy. Specifically, we determined whether: Military Departments established policy in accordance with the DoD comprehensive pollution prevention strategy, DoD installation pollution prevention programs are being effectively and efficiently managed, and, DoD installation pollution prevention plans have been published and include a priority/risk based approach for decisionmaking.
