Ovarian Cancer Prevention Program

Abstract

The goals of this research are to develop interdisciplinary studies of the etiology, biology and prevention of ovarian cancer. Three projects make up this program: Project I: Ovarian Cancer Consortium for Research and Surveillance, which will provide geographically-based system for recruitment, evaluation, surveillance and management of women at high risk for ovarian cancer. Project II: Facilitating Decision-Making About Prophylactic Oophorectomy is a behavioral research study in women at high risk for ovarian cancer who are considering or electing prophylactic oophorectomy. Project III: This Phase II Chemoprevention Study of Ovarian Cancer will evaluate the effect of fenretinide (4HPR) versus a placebo on intermediate or surrogate biomarkers of ovarian neoplastic progression in the ovaries of high risk women who have elected prophylactic oophorectomy.
